At the Gastech Conference & Exhibition held from 27 to 30 October 2015 at the Singapore Expo, the organisers of Gastech, dmg :: events, also held a”Spotlight on Indonesia”. This special forum invited investors from various countries to introduce and promote the potential of oil and gas and natural gas in Indonesia with policies applied.
Republic of Indonesia’s Ambassador, Andri Hadi opened the session by delivering the welcoming remarks. “Spotlight on Indonesia is part of Indonesia’s participation in the Gastech Conference & Exhibition 2015. I am glad to see a strong desire from participants, investors attending this forum,” said Hardi in his opening speech.
As a country with great economic growth, Indonesia needs the infrastructure development to support this economic growth. Across the gas industry, Indonesia requires more investors from across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. “Now, it is the right time to invest in Indonesia, because the current government under President Joko Widodo has committed to create a business friendly environment through a simple permit,” said Hardi.
After his welcoming remarks, a presentation on the “Indonesia Energy Outlook and Opportunities for Infrastructure Gas Development in Indonesia” was delivered by Director General of Oil and Gas, IGN Wiratmaja Puja.
Wiratmaja stated that Indonesia has a dream to provide light to areas across all of Indonesia and not just Java and Bali – How they build the infrastructure to provide energy for all Indonesian people will be a big challenge for the nation.
Wiratmaja also explained that the government was looking to change the energy utilization paradigm and philosophy of “energy follow[ing] the people”. Instead of energy infrastructures being built in high population area such as Java, the government hopes to change the paradigm by building more industrial areas in high energy resource areas. Various infrastructures would be constructed to help grow industries and to attract people to those areas to work and reside. “In the future, we hope that people will follow the energy,” Wiratmaja added.
Wiratmaja also gave an overview of natural gas in Indonesia, gas infrastructure construction and policy and permit simplification in order to stimulate an attractive investment climate in Indonesia.
Other presenters at the Spotlight on Indonesia sessions included Rudolf F. Doloksaribu, General Manger LNG Sales Operation PT Pertamina, Chairani Rachmatullah from PLN, and the Spotlight was then closed by Director and General Manager, Head of Investment Dept., Asia, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Noburo Kato.
The Spotlight on Indonesia forum gave attendees critical insight into the Indonesian oil and gas landscape and potential for investment, providing a crucial networking opportunity for international and local organisations. To further bolster relations between the international and local Indonesian energy community, dmg :: events will also run a 3 day event titled Gas Indonesia Summit & Exhibition (GIS) in Jakarta from 15 to 17 March 2016.
